Findhorn, Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust
Counting the number of smolts leaving the river is one of the best ways to monitor the health of the salmon and sea trout populations.
However, until recently smolt trapping has been expensive often requiring the construction of permanent traps but with the advent of portable Rotary Screw Traps (RST) a much easier to operate and cheaper approach is now available.
Using this approach the Trust has installed and operated a rotary screw trap on a number of the rivers in the area allowing valuable data to be collected.
